Buying a Domain Name
Buying a domain name is a very simple process. Check to see if your desired domain name is available, make your selection, and check out. The funny thing is, different registrars charge different prices. What’s the difference? Why would one charge more than another? Generally speaking, they all do the same thing. Just make sure you buy your domain name from an Icann Accredited registrar. Imagine you buy a domain name, build a Website, spend years building your traffic and your domain registrar goes out of business! You also don’t want to be scammed into giving your credit card number to some identity thief.
You can usually find a quality domain registrar for under $10 per month that offers just about every feature you would need. If you need some advanced features such as custom DNS settings, you should contact the registrar to see if they support those features.
Can’t find the domain you want? Many registrars are offering back-order services where when a particular domain expires; it is automatically purchased for you instantly. There are also some sites that allow you to bid on “premium” domain names. Be very careful when doing this. Make sure your money is handled by a “middle man” domain auction service. You don’t want to send $500 to some in joker on the other side of earth via Western Union that doesn’t even own the domain name. Never send the money directly to the domain owner. Make sure you use a recognized domain auction service to handle the transaction. The service may charge a small fee, but its well worth the piece of mind.
Otherwise, happy domain hunting!
