Getting Help
The honey gets the bees! Remember, when you ask for help from technical support, you are one of hundreds of inquiries that day. Don’t get snippy with them! Be polite and compliment how great the tech support is. The more they like you as a person, the more likely you will get answers to questions they normally wouldn’t answer. When you ask for help from tech support, don’t just ask them to fix your problem, ask for the answer to your problem. Obviously if it is a hardware or operating system issue, you will have to ask them to fix it. But otherwise, it is better if you learn how to do this stuff yourself. Over the years, I have learned more about Web servers from tech support then I learned from online tutorials. But it is critical that you don’t bombard them with every question you have. Try to use their online help documents first. Also, see if they have user forums. It can be more beneficial to have a friend online answer questions for you than tech support staff. Heck, you may even get 3 different answers to your problem on a user forum. There are also hundred of forums on the Internet for you to talk about Website stuff. But again, search the forum before asking a question. It is very annoying to have the same questions asked over and over again.
Using a search engine for your answer can also help. The problem with this is “you don’t know what you don’t know”. You might know the problem you are having, but you may not know the keywords to find the solution. Again, that is where forums and tech support come into play.
Good luck!
